Christmas is now over and the rush of the season is behind us. Now we are shopping at the Markets to bring all that new product to the store for the New Year.

Lots of great new stuff will be arriving in January and now we get to start all over again with our Spring line. Oh what a joy it is to work with all the pretty spring colors. It kind of helps warm up those cold winter days.

We have the most beautiful Poinsettias in stock right now. This year the grower has done a great job and the plants have vibrant red blooms with lush green foliage. All our plants are decorated with fresh pine and ribbon bows in a wicker basket.

You still have plenty of time to place your order and have it delivered the same day.

Is Your Florist Really Long Distance?

Your local florist is just a phone call away, so some think. Some unscrupulous telemarketing firms are posing as local florists, charging you higher fees and taking business away from legitimate florists in Louisville.

Here's how the deception works. A telemarketer takes out a bogus listing in the white pages of your telephone directory. The company may use your town's name in its own to make you believe it's local. or, the name of a legitimate local florist may be listed with a different local phone number. When you call, you're unknowingly forwarded to an out-of-town telemarketing operation. The Telemarketer takes your order and credit card information for payment, and forwards your order to an area florist. The telemarketer pockets a huge processing fee and a percentage of the sale as well. You don't realize you've been scammed until you get higher than expected charges from an out of town company on your credit card statement, or learn that the flowers weren't delivered as ordered, or were never delivered at all.

This same scheme is played out over and over again in our local yellow pages with companies who are not located in Louisville. These companies also collect huge processing fees and have to farm out your order to a local florist who agrees to give them a discount on the order.

Here are some tips on how to protect yourself before you place your next order.

* Ask neighbors, family, and friends for recommendations on a florist.
*Deal only with shops that list a street address and their phone number.
*Ask the florist to itemize the charges.
*Ask the florist for directions to the shop

If the florist hesitates or refuses to give you their local address or itemize the charges for you this is a red flag and take your business elsewhere.

We have been sprucing up the store!

We have been doing a lot of work around the flower shop this summer. We started with the new roof and then painted the building. You know how it goes, once you do one thing than everything else looks bad. So next we had Walnut Ridge Nursery come by and tear out all the old landscape and replace all the plants and put new stone around the planting beds.

If that wasn't enough we then had to replace the sign and had the landscape replaced around it.

The work is never done and you can always find things to fix. We are very proud of all the updates and if you get a chance stop by and say hello.

Remember that money spent with your local businesses help them spend money in the community. Don't order flowers from those out of town guys who don't support our local economy. Spend your money with the real local family owned businesses.

Poinsettia tips

The Poinsettia is a beautiful plant to have in the home or office this time of year. We have a whole store full of every size starting at $25 and going up to $50. All our plants are grown right here in Louisville. Many shops use a cheaper plant that comes from the greenhouses in Canada. These plants are not the quality or do they have the beauty of the local grown plants. The local grown ones are in our store in less than an hour, fresh from the greenhouse. The other shops receive theirs from trucks in boxes that take up to a week for shipping. With our plants we are keeping our money right here in Louisville where it belongs.

The Poinsettia needs a little special care to do well for you. They are tropical plants and love humidity. Provide this by placing the pots on the top of pebbles or broken pottery in water filled saucers. Do not allow the pots to touch the water and keep water in the saucer at all times.
